I know that sounds ridiculous but follow me on this and I’ll explain how this is true.
The idea that music can alleviate stress and help manage pain is not new, music therapy has been
around for decades.
It has even been studied in “the treatment of mood disorders related to neurological conditions, including Parkinson’s disease, dementia, stroke, and multiple sclerosis”.
Although I don’t have any of these disorders, I’ve had my share of stress.
Stress can affect the body in many ways, headaches, fatigue and muscle pain, to name a few.
It causes a chemical response in the body that makes skin more sensitive and reactive and can make it harder for skin problems to heal.
Stress causes the body to make cortisol, which then tells the sebaceous glands in the skin to produce more oil, this can cause break outs.
Research shows that stress can “aggravate psoriasis, rosacea and eczema and can even damage the skin’s barrier function” and “chronic stress can have a detrimental effect on skin aging”.
Getting back to Bruce…
I’m a huge Bruce fan, I’ve seen him live at least 19 times (that’s nothing compared to the people who have seen him 100’s),
I paid way too much money to see him on Broadway,
His music gives me all the feels… happy, calm, relaxed, joyful
And the memories…
My first concert was Bruce, December, 1980, Nassau Coliseum, 14th row on the floor.
I bribed my then 19-year old cousin to sleep online at Ticketmaster because tickets went on sale
the next day and I had to work.
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Clarence and Max, I’ve even sat with Clarence’s family during a show.
One of my BFF’s is also a fan, we’ve seen many shows together
I’ve even taken my parents to see him.
I’ve lived in Jersey and know the places he mentions in his songs – Freehold, Asbury Park, Madame Marie’s.
Every time I go to Asbury Park I take a picture of the Convention Center, Madame Marie’s and the Stone Pony, I must have hundreds of them.
I have made some extremely bad choices for myself in the past and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have gotten me through those tough times.
It’s the place I always know I can go when I feel anything other than happy
Listening to any of their music live soothes my soul.
Their music is my therapy.
They relieve my stress.
They’re good for my skin.
Does music relieve your stress?
If so, who do you listen to?
