Diet, Stress, Sensitivities, Oh My!!

Do you have redness, small visible blood vessels and eruptions on your nose, cheeks and forehead?

If so, you may have rosacea.

Unfortunately, there is no way to cure rosacea, lifestyle changes can help manage it.

Rosacea is caused by inflammation which can be caused by the diet, stress and food sensitivity.

If you think you have rosacea, the following may help:

1. Consider doing an elimination diet starting with dairy, sugar, grains and alcohol – these foods are the most common food sensitivities when it comes to rosacea.

2. Consume probiotic rich foods or supplements, they populate the gut with good bacteria leading to a reduction in inflammation (plain, full-fat, non-dairy yogurt and kefir; sauerkraut, kimchi)

3. Consume foods high in antioxidants to reduce inflammation (acai, blueberries, raspberries, raw nuts and seeds, dark green veggies and orange fruits and vegetables)

4. Consume foods high in omega-3 fatty acids to reduce inflammation (flax, chia, walnuts, salmon)

5. Avoid processed foods as they may contain hidden inflammatory foods.

6. Avoid products that irritate or strip the skin of its natural oils, such as soap

7. Use oil-based serums that trap moisture in the skin

8. Stress causes an increase in cortisol which in turn causes inflammation.

9. Get enough sleep. Lack of sleep increases cortisol which causes inflammation

10. Exercise opens the capillaries in the skin bringing nourishing nutrients that the skin needs.

If your rosacea doesn’t get any better, you should make an appointment with your doctor.
